Safety measures taken in Food Safety and Drug Administration Department

In Food Safety and Drug Administration Department both Food Safety and Drugs Administration wing is working to ensure the quality and safety of the food and drug consumed by the public and thereby maintaining the health of the public.

Drug Administration:

In the of June 2025 Enforcement officers of Drug Administration wing has conducted 2,544 Inspection, 133 Drug license were suspended and 20 drug licenses cancelled for the violations of the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules thereunder.

In the Month of June 2025. Drugs Testing Laboratories at Bangalore, Hubli and Bellary have analysed 1,333 samples. Among them 1,292 samples are declared as Standard Quality, 41 samples are declared as a Not of Standard quality.

The department is providing 26 services under Sakala and 1,439 Application have been received in the month of June 2025 and 1012 application have been disposed, including application carried over.

The Enforcement officers of the Drug Administration have conducted a Special Drive on 24.06.2025 and 25.06.2025 to control the misuse of NDPS drugs. During the NDPS special Drive 279 inspection is carried out and notice has been given to 233 shops.

From April-2025 to June 2025, the Enforcement Officers filed a total 81 cases in the Hon’ble Courts against firms that violated the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules thereunder.

The Department has ensured Not of Standard Quality Drugs worth of Rs. 40,48,436/-lakhs were recalled from the market and seized in the month of June 2025.

A special drive was conducted by Enforcement officers of the Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration across the blood centres in the entire state. As part of this special operation, inspected a total of 122 blood centres. Based on the various violations observed, show cause notices were issued to 44 blood centres and Compliance letters were issued to 80 blood centres.

In celebration of World Food Safety Day on 07.06.2025, a series of meaningful programs have been organized throughout the month. In this regard, the Food Safety Division of the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has undertaken the following actions over the past month:

Inspection of Street Vendors:

In compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, food safety, quality, and hygiene aspects were inspected across the state, covering 1557 street food vendors. Notices were issued to 406 establishments where violations were identified, and fines totalling Rs.44,500/- were imposed on the spot. Additionally, free registration was provided to 866 street vendors, and 64 FoSTaC training sessions were conducted, benefiting 1240 street food vendors with the necessary food safety training.

 Inspection of Food Stalls at Bus Stations:

In order to ensure adherence to the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, inspections were conducted at 184 bus stations covering 871 food stalls across the state. Notices were issued to 216 establishments with identified violations, and fines amounting to Rs.55,000/- were imposed on the spot. 95 food samples were collected and sent for laboratory analysis.

 Inspection of Anganwadi Centres:

As part of ensuring food safety and hygiene at Anganwadi centres, 604 centres across the state were inspected. 541 food samples were collected and sent for laboratory analysis. In addition, free registration was provided to a total of 903 Anganwadi centres.

 Inspection of Hotels and Restaurants:

Inspections were carried out at 720 hotels/restaurants across the state to ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and hygiene standards. Notices were issued to 183 establishments with violations, and fines totalling Rs.21,500/- were imposed on the spot. 234 drinking water samples were also collected and sent for laboratory analysis.

 Inspection of High-Risk Food Businesses:

Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, inspections were conducted for 1,492 food businesses categorized under the High-Risk sector to ensure the implementation of food safety and quality standards. Among these, notices were issued to 415 establishments where violations were identified.
