Bengaluru: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Bengaluru Branch Office, successfully conducted a Two-Day Residential Reinforcement Training Programme for Mentors on 27 and 28 June 2025 at RG Royal Hotel, Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru. The event brought together 56 mentors from various BIS Standards Clubs across Karnataka for a capacity-building programme focused on enhancing their understanding of BIS activities and promoting standards-based education.
The programme was inaugurated by Shri Narender Reddy Beesu, Scientist-E and Director, BIS-Bengaluru, who welcomed participants and outlined the importance of quality standards in everyday life. Smt. Premlata Sinha, Scientist-D and Joint Director, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the core activities of BIS, including standardization, certification, testing, training, and educational outreach.
A key highlight of the training was a deep dive into the ‘Learning Science via Standards’ (LSvS) module -an innovative BIS initiative that integrates science concepts with real-life applications through standards. This module was delivered through practical and interactive sessions led by Resource Support Team (RST) members Dr. Senthilkumar Radhakrishnan, Shri Mohan Kumar and Smt. Premakumari.
Key components of the training included a standards writing workshop followed by group presentations, hands-on demonstrations of BIS digital tools such as the BIS website, BIS Care App, Standards Watch, and the BIS national quiz platform. Mentors were trained in the transaction of BIS-prepared lesson plans based on common household products like pressure cookers, Milk Powder, Vaccum Flask and biogas plant. Additionally, they participated in group activities that involved identifying scientific principles behind daily-use items and engaged in a quiz competition on LSVS to reinforce their understanding.
The programme concluded with a feedback session and certificate distribution, leaving mentors equipped and inspired to guide students in exploring science and quality through the lens of national standards.
This initiative reflects BIS’s ongoing efforts to build a quality-conscious generation by empowering teachers and mentors with the tools to make learning both meaningful and standards-aligned.
